A food allergy occurs when the body’s immune system sees a certain food as harmful and reacts by causing a reaction.

The majority of food allergies in children are not severe, and may be outgrown with time. However, some tend to be lifelong allergies and can be severe. It is therefore important for parents and caregivers to know how to protect their child and reduce his or her risk.
